Boat salvage yards are regional and seasonal

Marine wrecking yards cluster near coastal areas and inland lakes with high boat density. They stock what sinks or gets wrecked locally: if bass boats are common in your area, the local yard probably has them. If you need parts for an offshore center console, local salvage may not be the answer.

Inventory is also seasonal. Yards see the most boats come in after summer and during winter storage season.

How AnyPartsHub works for boat parts

Post your request with your boat's make, model, year, and engine information. Verified marine parts sellers respond with quotes. That includes salvage yards, dealers parting out trade-ins, and outboard specialists who ship nationwide.

For hull and interior parts, local pickup is often better since shipping large panels is expensive. For outboard motors and mechanical parts, shipping is common and national sourcing often turns up better options.

Outboard motors vs inboard engines

Outboard motors are the most common marine parts request. Serial number matters: Mercury, Yamaha, Honda, and Suzuki all use serial numbers to determine parts compatibility. Evinrude and Johnson parts are now sourced entirely used or as NOS since OMC stopped production in 2020.

Inboard and stern-drive engines follow the engine block brand, not the boat brand. A MerCruiser 5.7 in a Chaparral and one in a Regal use the same block-level parts. Outdrive components are specific to the drive model.

What to buy used vs new

Buy used: Complete outboard motors, lower units, powerheads, trim and tilt assemblies, control boxes, steering components, props, fuel tanks, and upholstery.

Always buy new: Impellers, water-pump kits, fuel filters, zincs, and any safety equipment. These are inexpensive and not worth cutting corners on.

Brand availability

  • Yamaha: Largest used-parts supply. F150, F250, and older 2-stroke models are widely stocked.
  • Mercury: Very broad. 4-stroke Verados, 2-stroke Optimax, and carbureted models all available.
  • Honda: Reliable engines with lower salvage turnover. Parts available through specialists.
  • Evinrude/Johnson (OMC): Production ended 2020. All parts now come from salvage or NOS stock. Specialists are the best source.
  • Suzuki: Available but thinner. Usually requires national sourcing.

What to include in your request

  • Boat make, model, and year (for hull and interior parts)
  • Engine brand, horsepower, model number, and serial number prefix
  • Specific part needed (lower unit, powerhead, trim and tilt, control box)
  • Whether you need local pickup or can accept shipping
