Why used car parts make sense
Replacing a part with a factory-original used component often makes more sense than buying aftermarket new. You get OEM fit and quality at 40 to 70% less than dealer pricing. For older vehicles especially, used is sometimes the only option when new parts are discontinued.
The challenge has always been finding a trustworthy source. That's where most people waste hours.
The old way vs. the new way
The old way: call five junkyards, get three voicemails, two "we don't have it," and one who says they'll check and never calls back. Days lost.
The new way: post your request once with your vehicle details and the part you need. Verified sellers who actually carry that part respond with quotes. You compare, pick the best offer, and move on.
AnyPartsHub works this second way. You don't search. Sellers come to you.
What to include in your parts request
The more specific you are, the better the quotes you get:
- Year, make, model, trim level
- Engine size (especially for drivetrain parts)
- VIN (makes matching exact)
- Part name and any OEM part number if you have it
- Condition preference: OEM used, OEM new, aftermarket, remanufactured
- Whether you need it shipped or can pick up locally
What to watch out for when buying used parts
Check mileage on drivetrain parts. An engine from a 180k-mile car is a different product than one from a 60k-mile car. Good sellers will tell you upfront.
Ask about a warranty. Reputable used parts sellers offer 30 to 90 day warranties. If a seller won't commit to any warranty, that's a signal.
Verify the part fits your specific VIN. Some models have mid-year changes. A seller matching by VIN is doing it right.
Factor in shipping costs. A cheaper part with $200 freight might not be cheaper at all. Request quotes that include shipping to your ZIP code.
Which parts are easiest to source used
- Body panels (doors, hoods, fenders, bumpers)
- Interior trim and seats
- Lights (headlights, taillights, mirrors)
- Electrical components (ECUs, instrument clusters)
- Suspension and steering parts
- Transmissions and transfer cases
Engines are available used too, though they require more due diligence on mileage and compression test results.
